The crisis is real

As a result of the government’s recommended measures to control the spread of the virus, the supply chain of essential items and groceries has been disrupted. Furthermore, panic-buying and hoarding have made it even more difficult to get food to those who need it most.

Many are suffering financial hardship due to loss of work and employment, causing more trouble for food-insecure families. Measures intended to reduce virus transmission —lockdowns and social distancing— are leaving seniors and immunocompromised people to rely on expensive and limited grocery delivery services.

90% reported an urgent need for food. One member noted that due to panic buying, “Retail donations have been negligible for the past two months and show little indication of resuming. The current bump in wholesale donations and food drives will not be sufficient to offset these losses.”
21% reported an urgent need for more employees or volunteers to handle the increase in demand.
